Other stellar performances Wednesday included Rafael Furcal (Vicious Fishes) 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base; David Freese (High Cheese) 3-for-5 with two RBI; and Jason Motte (Bomba) a save and two Ks.
Here are some players I'm keeping an eye on in today's games.
Jose Bautista (The Machine) has gone 4-for-8 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two walks against pitcher Justin Masterson (Mirrors)...Toronto starting pitcher Ricky Romero (Vicious Fishes) has given up just three extra base hits to current Indians in 55 plate appearances...Travis Hafner (HUMA) and Shin-Soo Choo (The Machine) are both 2-for-7 against Romero while Carlos Santana (The Cys) and Asdrubal Cabrera (Marin Menehunes) are both 1-for-3 with a double each.
Tommy Hanson (Vicious Fishes) has struggled against current Mets, giving up 10 extra base hits, including five home runs, since 2009. Justin Turner (FA) has two homers against Hanson while Josh Thole (FA), Jason Bay (HUMA), and Lucas Duda (Home Run 101) each have one...David Wright (Give it a Yankee) is just 2-for-18 with eight strikeouts against Hanson...Johan Santana (Marin Menehunes) returns from a shoulder injury to make his first start in more than 18 months. Traditionally, Santana has been good against the Braves, holding them to 38 hits in 149 at bats with 35 strikeouts...Brian McCann (Bacon at Mile 13) hasn't been fooled by Santana, going 8-for-29 with three home runs...Dan Uggla (Bacon at Mile 13) has not been good against Santana, going 1-for-19 with 10 strikeouts.
Roy Halladay (The Bulls) has been dominant against current Pirates, allowing just 11 hits in 84 plate appearances...Rod Barajas (Bacon at Mile 11) is just 1-for-15 against Halladay while Andrew McCutchen (Bomba) is 1-for-8 with three strikeouts...Only six current Phillies have faced Pirates starter Erik Bedard (Lower Haighters). Ty Wigginton (High Cheese) is 7-for-27 with nine strikeouts and four RBI, and Jimmy Rollins (Bomba) is 2-for-11 with two strikeouts. Jim Thome (FA) and Placido Polanco (FA) have both homered off Bedard.
Young flamethrower Stephen Strasburg (Mirrors) will face a Cubs team today that hasn't seen him before. The fact that an average Chicago offensive lineup is seeing Strasburg's 100 mph heater for the first time would indicate a lot of strikeouts will be recorded..David DeJesus (FA) is the only Cubs position player that has faced Strasburg in his career. DeJesus went 2-for-3...Current Nationals have seen plenty of Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster (Home Run 101) and they like what they see. In 101 plate appearances, current Cubs have 26 hit, including 10 extra base hits, against Dempster...Ryan Zimmerman (Bacon at Mile 11) has gone 6-for-17 with a home run...Jayson Werth (Home Run 101) is just 2-for-12 with five strikeouts but both hits were doubles.
